*History:- Raichur has acquired a rich history over the centuries, having been a part of various empires, such the Mauryas, Chalukyas, Bahmanis, Vijayanagara and the Mughal kings. Raichur is famous for its imposing Raichur Fort. Subsequently this city was ruled by Nizam of Hyderbad  during 19th century.

* Geography:- 15.12’ North latitude 77.21’ east latitude & altitude of place 400 mts above MSL.

*Demographics:-As of 2001 India census Raichur had a population of 205,634. Males constitute 51 % of the population and females 49 %. Raichur has an average literacy rate of 62 %, higher than the national average of 59.5 %. The present population is around 2.7 lakhs. The area of the city is around 60 Sq kms consist of 35 territorial wards and also forms the third largest city in north karnataka of Gulbarga division after Gulbarga and Bellary.

*Temperature:-The average temperature is from 420 C to 470 C during April and May in the summer.

*Rivers:-The only two rivers of importance in this district are the Krishna and the Tungabhadra  which flows at a distance of 19 kms away from the city which caters to the needs of drinking  water supply to Raichur city.

*Industry:-The Raichur Thermal Power Station at Shaktinagar in this district provides a large portion of the electricity consumption in Karnataka. Raichur Thermal Power Station comprises of eight power generating units, six units of 210MW and two units of 110MW. Raichur Thermal Power Plant is one of the nation's most efficient power station.                   

                                Raichur District is one of few places in India where gold resources are present. Hatti Gold Mines are situated in Raichur District, around 90 km away from Raichur city. All the five talukas mentioned above are very well irrigated, with water from the Tungabhadra Dam on the Tungabhadra River, and Narayanpura dam on the Krishna River. Raichur is known for its paddy fields and its rice is of extremely superior quality. Raichur has numerous rice mills which exports high quality rice to different countries. It has also got a good trading market in cotton industry  .
